Samsung and LG Smart TV
Nothing to sideload. Both Tizen and webOS carry suitable players in their own stores, and the whole job is done with the television remote.
Before you start
- A Samsung or LG set from roughly 2017 onwards
- Your M3U link or your Xtream details
Install a player from the television store
Open the app store built into the television and search for an IPTV player. Samsung sets and LG sets each have several. Install whichever one looks maintained, and do not pay for anything until you have confirmed the line works.
Register the device key if the player asks for one
Some players show a device key or MAC address on first launch and want it registered on the developer website, occasionally for a small one-off fee of theirs. That is the player author charging you, not us. Do it before you go any further, because the player will refuse to load a playlist until it is done.
Add your subscription
Choose to add a playlist, then either paste your M3U link or enter the Xtream server, username and password from your account. Xtream gives you a populated programme guide, so use it unless the player will not accept it.
Wait out the first load
Television processors are modest and the first channel list can take two or three minutes to appear. Restarting the app halfway through is the most common way people turn a slow load into a broken one. Leave it alone and it will finish.
Worth knowing before you start
- If the player crashes on a very long list, hide the category groups you never watch. That single change fixes most smart television complaints we see.
- Sets older than about 2017 struggle regardless of the service. A cheap stick in the HDMI socket costs less than the evening you will lose fighting the television.
